High Bût Valley

The peaks of the Coglians, Pal Piccolo, Freikofel and Pal Grande act as a crown surrounding the High Bût Valley. By walking along "The paths of memory" from the Mount Croce Carnico pass to the Pramosio Shelter, visitors traverse scenarios from the First World War and can observe numerous traces from the conflict, such as Austrian and Italian fortifications that have been restored and transformed into an outdoor history museum. The vast pasture terraces housing the malghe of this area offer gentle views enlivened by the presence of great yellow gentian, arnica, rhododendrons, plus an abundance of blueberries. There are also many towns to visit at the feet of the valley, including Paluzza, Timau, Cercivento and Sutrio, all of which offer noteworthy landmarks.
