Nordio mountainhut - Mount Lussari

Length: 17.9 km
Type:

From the Rifugio Nordio-Deffar shelter at a height of 1,406 m above sea level, follow CAI Trail No. 507 and climb up to Sella Bistriza and the Feistritzer Alm at a height of 1,725 m above sea level, both located below the southern slope of Mount Osternig. From here, go south along the boundary line (signposted CAI Trail Nos. 403-507) to the Madonna della Neve (Our Lady of the Snow) chapel and go down to Sella Pleccia. From the pass, climb up again for about 100 metres to reach the Achomitzeralm. From the malga mountain hut, take CAI Trail No. 508, which crosses the western slope of Mount Acomizza and then descends southwards to the Cima Muli forest lodge. From here, continue to go down along a steep cart track through the woods (always signposted CAI Trail No. 508) in the direction of Camporosso. Just above the village, leave the cart track and follow a trail leading directly down to the village. Once you have passed the old cross-country ski school and under a subway crossing State Road No. 13, the trail joins the Alpe Adria Radweg Cycle Path under a motorway viaduct. Follow the cycle path to the left until you reach the Mount Lussari cable car departure station at a height of 810 m above sea level, from where, following the asphalted road, you will soon reach the residential area of Lussari. Here the forest track begins that follows the route of the ancient pilgrimage path (CAI Trail No. 613) and goes up the entire valley of the Lussari river up to the Malga Lussari pastures at a height of 1,573 m above sea level. From the malga, the trail continues into the woods to the right of the ski slopes until reaching the village and the Mount Santo di Lussari Sanctuary at a height of 1,775 m above sea level.
Length: 17.9 km.
Uphill gradient: 1210 m.
